Organ Balance

Ying-yang has served as a traditional guideline for Traditional Chinese Medicine. It promotes the idea that opposing forces or polar opposites are connected and interchangeable, and are as delicate as a spider web.  Our treatment maintains that the bioelectric energy and cellular metabolism of the body is balanced and functioning accordingly, to relieve or eliminate pain and pathological diseases.

Zang Fu is a term that describes the functions and interactions of the organs of the body.  Zang refers to the yin organs - heart, liver, spleen, lung, kidney, and pericardium.  Fu refers to the yang organs - small intestine, large intestine, gall bladder, urinary bladder, and stomach.  Each of the twelve zang-fu organs listed a corresponding organ, except the pericardium and which both describe functions that are not related to an organ.  It works as follows: each Zang is paired with a Fu, and each pair are assigned to one of the Wu xing.

Organs of Zhang Fu consists of:

YIN ORGANS
•         The Liver is paired with the Gallbladder.  The function of the Liver is to have qi flow smoothly throughout the body.
•         The Heart is paired with the Small intestine. The Heart is considered to be the most important Internal Organ, sometimes described as the 'ruler', 'emperor' or monarch. The main function of the Heart is to govern the blood, which it does in two ways: transforming Food-Qi into Blood, and circulating the Blood just the same as in Western Medicine.
•         The Spleen is paired with the Stomach. The function of the Spleen is to transform food and drink into qi and blood and transport these substances around the body.
•         The Lung is paired with the Large Intestine. The function of the Lung is to descend and disperse qi throughout the body.
•         The Kidney is paired with the Bladder.  The Kidneys store Essence, govern birth, growth, reproduction and development. They also produce the Marrow which fills the brain and control the bones.
•         The Pericardium is paired with the San Jiao or Triple Burner.  The pericardium is closely related to the Heart. It is known as 'Master of the Heart' (Xin Zhu) and 'Envelope of the Heart' (Xin Bao). The pericardium protects the heart from attacks by exterior pathogenic factors.

YANG ORGANS
•         Large intestine - the function of the Large Intestine is to control the passage and conduction of stools. In the process, it transforms the stools and reabsorbs fluids from them.
•         Gallbladder - helps with the digestive system and stores bile in the liver.
•         Urinary bladder - Controls the movement of urine and the amount of waste which leaves the body.
•         Stomach - is used to digest food and disperse its energy throughout the body.
•         Small Intestine is an important factor in digestion. Disruption of the small intestine may lead to abdominal pain.
•         Triple Burner (San jiao)- San Jiao is a yang organ paired with the pericardium (Xin Bao) which is the yin organ associated with it.  It consists of three burning spaces and is usually associated with metabolism. It is energetic and does not have a physical component, unlike all the other organs in TCM.
